Ecam interacts with business captains
As a way of interacting with its members, Employers Consultative Association of Malawi (Ecam) on Wednesday organised a breakfast meeting for Blantyre-based business captains.
Ecam, which is a representative body of employers, wanted to brief the captains on the progress the group made in 2016 and its plans for this year.
Ecam president Emmanuel Banda said in 2017, they plan to help its members to embrace best practices and join other partnerships which will help to get capacity, development, technical experts and value added services.
He urged companies to join Global Apprenticeships Network (GAN) to help the youth who are most vulnerable victims of the global recession.
“If we are only targeting the one end of the equation then there is no sustainability. As we are getting involved in the development of the youth, our import becomes critical by giving them career guidance and help them to get self drive to employment,” he said.
In her remarks, Old Mutual Malawi acting chief executive officer Edith Jiya said they have accrued a number of benefits since they joined the Ecam Top Employer Survey the past two years.
“We have been able to improve some of our policy and practices in the human resource. Skill and talent are scarce specially to get the right person for any role,” he said.
Jiya said at Old Mutual Malawi, they have been conducting a gap analysis within and learning from other employers in Malawi and globally in terms of best practices in areas they want to be more competitive on the market.
Ecam represents employers in the process of revising minimum wages and the Tripartite Labour Advisory Council (Tlac)
